Australian Native Show 2018
21 November 2018
The Sapphire Coast Orchid Club’s Australian Native Orchid show was held on the 2nd and 3rd November at Twyford Hall, Merimbula. The dainty Sarcochilus Orchids, usually the mainstay of this show, are a little late in flowering this year. Although down in numbers, there were some beautiful plants on display, complimented by a very good showing of Soft Cane Dendrobiums, Masdevallias, Cymbidiums and a variety of other exotic orchids, which made for a very colourful show for visitors to enjoy.
Grand Champion Sarcanthinae Orchid and winner of the Bev & George Parker Perpetual Trophy was Sarc Galaxy ‘Cream 2011’ x Sarc Amber Apricot, grown by Les and Ann Tudberry from Tura Beach. This colourful plant had perfectly shaped pink and cream flowers with a red centre and was also awarded Champion Sarcanthinae Hybrid. Les and Ann also won Champion Sarcanthinae Species with their very shapely white Sarc hartmannii and were winners of the overall point score.
Ulli Cliff from Bega won Champion Sarcanthinae Specimen with her Sarc (Hot Ice x fitzgeraldii) ‘Bright’ x Hot Ice ‘4x’, carrying numerous racemes of pink flowers all around the pot.
Bob and Muriel Bell from Eden won Champion Any Other Orchid with their beautiful pure white Soft Cane Dendrobium.
Merle Danvers from Bega won Champion Novice with her beautifully grown and displayed Sarcochilus Heidi, carrying numerous racemes of white flowers with a coloured centre.
The Sapphire Coast Orchid Club would like to especially thank the Pambula and District Community Bank for their generous support of our show. Thank you also to all exhibitors and helpers who made this show a success.
